iii. Functions of the Male and Female Reproductive Systems in the Reproductive Process
The male reproductive system is responsible for producing and delivering sperm to the female reproductive system. The female reproductive system is responsible for producing eggs and providing a suitable environment for the development of the fetus.
The reproductive process begins with the production of sperm in the testes. The sperm then travel to the epididymis, where they are stored and matured. When the male rabbit mates, the sperm travel from the epididymis to the vas deferens and then to the urethra. The sperm are then ejaculated into the female rabbit's vagina.
The female rabbit's ovaries produce eggs. When an egg is released from the ovary, it travels down the oviduct to the uterus. If the egg is fertilized by a sperm, it will implant in the wall of the uterus and begin to develop into a fetus. The fetus will develop in the uterus for about 31 days, after which it will be born.
